Abigail
Abigail by Patrice McRae
Abigail was married to a scoundrel named Nabal,
Who wouldn't let King David and his men feast from his table,
When David received word from his own servants,
He mounted and rode for war with a fervance
Abigail was wise beyond her years,
Couldn't wait, had to alleviate her fears,
that David would come and slay them all,
And that all of them would die and fall,
Because her husband was ignorant and brash,
She had to do something, and she had to do it fast.
She packed loaves of bread and meat and cakes,
To take to King David, she did what it takes,
She rode on a donkey and pleaded her cause,
You would have liked her and given her applause
She knew King David was annointed of God,
She knew her husband did not know on whom he had trod.
Did I mention Abigail was very beautiful?
Full of the Lord and to Him she was dutiful.
She fell down on her face before the king,
And pleaded before him before her husband was seen,
And David listened to his humble servant,
She spoke to him and was very fervent.
David spared the life of Nabal's lot,
Now this is where the story starts to get hot.
Abigail returned to the house of Nabal,
Where there had been feasting and drinking at his table,
Abigail waited until the drink had worn off,
To tell Nabal all about his stuff.
It took ten days for the Lord to strike,
That was the end of Nabal's life.
When David heard that Nabal was dead,
Struck down for his wickedness and not using his head,
David proposed to Abigail and made her his wife,
Abigail said "I am your servant" and started a new life.
Abigail teaches us not to harbor pride,
Be humble, not weak and you will survive.
Do not be evil or harvest hate,
Because those things only lead to a dreaded fate.
Speak to others with a clean heart,
And the Lord will bless you and from Him you will never part.
